Due to the complexity of product manufacturing, numerous product variants are created over time. To streamline quote creation, Zilliant CPQ allows you to view and reuse variants of a selected configurable product.

View product variants in the product catalog

The product catalog, from which you add a quote line item, lists product variants along with classified and configurable products. You can configure the product variant before adding it as a line item, or add it as it is. For details, read Add a line item in Manage line items


View product variants in the product configurator

View a list of product variants in the product configurator while configuring a selected product before adding it to a quote. This list dynamically displays all variants that match the configurations you've already selected for the product in the product configurator.

To open the list of product variants in the product configurator, follow these steps:

  1. Open the product configurator.
  2. (Optional.) Select key configurations to filter product variants.
  3. Select to open the list of product variants.
Tip

When you update product configurations, the Update button appears above the product variants list. Select it to filter the list by the updated key configurations.

From the list of product variants in the product configurator, you can:

  • Preview and compare product variants
  • Manage product variants

Preview and compare product variants

To preview configurations of a product variant in a tabular format, in the product variants list in the product configurator, on the needed variant, select .

To compare product variant configurations in a tabular format, in the product variants list in the product configurator, select up to five variants, then select on the toolbar above the variants list.

Manage product variants

In the product configurator, from the list of product variants, variant preview, and variants comparison view, you can perform the following actions:

  • Copy configurations of the product variant into the underlying product and continue its configuration.
  • Add a product variant to the quote and continue configuration of the underlying product. The variant is added as a non-configurable product.
  • Replace the underlying product in the quote with the product variant. Learn how to configure the Replace action behavior.

Configure the Replace action behavior

When replacing a product with its variant, you can save the data that you've manually entered on the underlying product, such as price conditions, partner details, sales item texts, attachments, and other specific information.

To allow saving this data when replacing a product, follow these steps:

  1. From the application left navigation area, select Administration.
  2. From the top navigation bar, select Master Data Management.
  3. Scroll or search to locate Setting String and select it from the list.
  4. Set the Setting Enable Copy SalesItem Data On SalesItem Replacement parameter as TRUE.

Filter product variants by configurable product

The product configurator can display only those product variants that are linked with the underlying configurable product. To link variants with the configurable product, select the configurable product in the KMAT field in product variant settings.

To enable filtering by the KMAT field value, follow these steps:

  1. From the application left navigation area, select Administration.
  2. From the top navigation bar, select Master Data Management.
  3. Scroll or search to locate Setting Boolean and select it from the list.
  4. Select Allow variant matching by relationship.
  5. Set the Setting Value Boolean switch to YES.

Show or hide the product variant finder tool

Based on your role, follow these steps:

Business administrator

  1. From the application left navigation area, select Administration.
  2. From the top navigation bar, select User Management.
  3. On the Users tab, select one or multiple users, then select .
  4. On the Preference(s) update for user(s) screen, go to the Configurator section.
  5. Under Hide Variant Finder, select the desired setting.
  6. Select Apply.

User

  1. In CPQ, in the top right, select your profile picture or the account icon.
  2. In the dialog, select your profile picture or the account icon.
  3. On the Preferences tab, set the Hide Variant Finder switch to YES or NO.
  4. Select Save Changes.

Add information for attribute values

You can display extra context related to attribute values. This functionality is provided by the Additional information for configurator characteristics values Groovy exit. This exit allows you to include additional information for characteristic values, with a focus on the additionalInfo field. The Groovy exit allows you to set both normal text and rich text as additionalInfo for attribute values.

This additional information is displayed on the configuration summary screen.
