Price Manager concepts

Price Manager provides the framework to manage, adjust, simulate, and publish prices. To support this, the application uses:

  • Template—Data framework required to manage specific use cases. Templates provide visibility into cost changes and their impact on margins and revenue.
  • Scenario—"What if" version of a strategy sheet. Scenarios are created on the basis of templates. Use scenarios to experiment with different optimization strategy lines, price optimization strategies, and strategy parameters before updating the base workbook.
  • Base workbook—Master data table. This workbook serves as the source of data that is loaded into templates and resulting scenarios, and the target for data that is updated and published in scenarios.
  • Decision support workbook—Reference data for templates and scenarios. This workbook can include worksheets with data about your products, customers, or inventory.

Pricing waterfall

Zilliant approaches price management through the lens of the pricing waterfall. By using a pricing waterfall to visualize the price transformation process, you can more easily evaluate and measure the impact of each waterfall element on the process.

Your business relies on a combination of elements that reflects your unique price transformation process. To facilitate analysis, Zilliant’s requirements-gathering approach maps your pricing waterfall into a standard waterfall and related product components.

Waterfall elements included in price transformation include:

  • Lists—Tables of numeric values, such as price or cost, at a specified granularity.
  • Adjustments—Factors by which the waterfall transitions from one list to the next. This may include one or more rules that are applied in a specific order.

Price Manager components

This section provides a brief overview of the foundational data used to make pricing updates for standard use cases.

Master Data

Master data sources capture key attributes for the data review, analysis, and update process. You can combine master data tables to define specific attribute relationships, such as country products. Master data can include lists of countries, regions, products, region products etc.

Waterfall elements

Waterfall elements are tables that house lists, adjustments, or related calculations required to build the pricing waterfall. You can define separate waterfall elements at any level of granularity available in the master data.

Waterfall element tables are:

  • Sources of data that is refreshed when creating a scenario.
  • Targets for data that is updated in, and published from, the scenario workbook.

Waterfall element tables hold values and track history over time; however, data changes are not made directly in these tables.
