Use the product configurator to configure products before or after you add them to a quote. In Zilliant CPQ, the product configurator helps you select product characteristics, review configuration details, and work with related information such as product variants, partners, and product text.

Open the product configurator
You can open the product configurator either while adding a new product to a quote or from an existing configurable line item. For details, select the UI version you use.
Open the configurator while adding a product
Use this option when you want to configure a product before adding it to the quote.
Select + to add a new line item.
In the product catalog, on a configurable product, select Configure.
Open the configurator from an existing line item
Use this option when the product is already on the quote and you want to review or update its configuration.
On a configurable line item, next to the product name, select

Open the configurator while adding a product
Use this option when you want to configure a product before adding it to the quote.
On the Items tab, select Add > + Add Line Item.
In the product catalog, on a configurable product, select

Open the configurator from an existing line item
Use this option when the product is already on the quote, and you want to review or update its configuration.
On a configurable line item, next to the product name, select an option:

to open the external configurator. This option is available only for products enabled for external configuration.
The configurator icon can use different colors to show the product configuration status:
Green—Base configuration is complete.
Red—Base configuration is incomplete.
Blue—Product is not configurable.
Understand configurator field indicators
To simplify your work with the product configurator, Zilliant CPQ uses visual cues that differentiate configurator field types.
A vertical red bar appears before fields required for valid configuration and for calculating the base price of a product.
Values of fields with a dotted blue border are defined by the system. A source for these values can be a script, a trigger, or a system change. Depending on the model settings, you can edit system-defined values.
Values of fields with a solid blue border are defined by a user.

Switch between configurator views
Zilliant CPQ allows you to view product configurations in two formats:
Editable view (available only for configurable products)
Read-only, tabular view
To switch between configurator views, follow these steps:
Select Technical View
to switch between the editable view and the read-only tabular view. If you don't see the Technical View switch, add it to the user interface.
View product variants
The product configurator enables you to work with product variants. For details, read Manage product variants.
View partners and product text
Using the product configurator, you can:
View and edit the product text to document special requests and configured attributes.
View and edit partner information to make changes to the ship-to or bill-to information.
