Use scenarios to optimize, analyze, and update prices, working separately from your active data until you're ready to publish. Scenarios appear as workbook links in a designated folder on the Price IQ Manager Dashboard.

Follow these procedures to work with scenarios:

After you create a scenario, you can apply strategies and optimize prices.

Before you continue

Depending on your user settings, the Negotiated Prices workbook might be named Scenario Management or Manage Scenarios Dashboard. The workbook's capabilities are still the same.

Open a scenario

Use one of the following methods to open a scenario workbook:

  • From the Negotiated Prices workbook:

    1. From the Price IQ Manager Dashboard, open the Negotiated Prices workbook.
    2. On the Scenario Management worksheet, select a scenario name to go to its workbook.
  • From the Scenarios folder:

    1. From the Price IQ Manager Dashboard, expand the Scenarios folder.
    2. Select a scenario name to go to its workbook.
Important

On the Price IQ Manager Dashboard, you may see a folder named Setup. If you are a Pricing Analyst or Pricing Manager, do not use workbooks in this folder. They are designed for use only by configuration teams.

Create a scenario

  1. From the Price IQ Manager Dashboard, go to Negotiated Prices.
  2. On the Scenario Management worksheet, select Insert Row.
  3. Enter information or make selections to create the scenario:
    • Scenario Name—Enter a name for the new scenario. Special characters are not allowed.
    • Scenario Template—Select a scenario workbook template. For most scenarios, select Optimize.
    • Scope—Select the scope of prices to include in the scenario. This limits the number of prices the scenario will optimize.
  4. Select Save.

Build a scenario

To finalize the creation of the scenario, you must build it.

  1. From the Price IQ Manager Dashboard, go to Negotiated Prices.
  2. On the Scenario Management worksheet, select the Selection checkbox near the scenario to build.
  3. Select the Build worksheet action.
  4. In the confirmation dialog, select Run Action.
    Note
    • If you previously ran the scenario, results or customizations in the scenario are lost when you run the scenario again.
    • Depending on your scenario settings, it may take as long as ten minutes to run a scenario.
  5. When the scenario build completes, refresh the worksheet.

You can now work with the scenario to apply strategies and optimize prices.

Execute scenario actions

You can execute various actions with your scenarios, including publishing, refreshing, and optimizing. You can perform each action for one scenario or simultaneously for multiple scenarios.

To run an action:

  1. From the Price IQ Manager Dashboard, go to Negotiated Prices.
  2. Open the Scenario Management worksheet.
  3. Select the Selection checkbox next to one or more scenarios.
  4. Select a worksheet action:
    • Build—Build or rebuild the scenario and refresh data in it.
      Note

      Any optimization results or strategy customizations in the scenario are permanently lost when you build or rebuild a scenario.

    • Refresh—Refresh data in the scenario using the specified data scope. This action does not change the structure or strategy lines in the scenario.
    • Optimize—Apply strategies and optimize prices in the scenario.
    • Publish—Push all prices from the scenario into your connected price management system and into the Negotiated Prices > Publish Price History worksheet.
    • Duplicate—Build a new scenario that duplicates an existing scenario's scope and strategy lines.
    • Delete—Permanently delete the scenario.
    • Clear Analytics—Clear the data used for the scenario’s visual analytics.
